Reconnecting Young Learners During and After COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic has not only created a health crisis for all, but it has resulted in a crisis for children’s education. With schools resuming learning under various models virtual or hybrid methods, children face many challenges that not only impact them academically but also socially and emotionally. For some, learning will simply stop, and already acquired knowledge and abilities will start to fade. Social-emotional skills, which are particularly responsive to the environment in the early years, are likely to suffer during the crisis. This session will help professional development providers explore the key challenges early childhood educators face in supporting young learners in various learning modalities and offers resources and strategies to help teachers and care providers address those challenges.
Presented by Monique Williams. an Educator and Consultant who has developed and facilitated numerous training and workshops on trauma-informed practice for various state and local agencies including the Virginia Department of Education, Department of Criminal Justice Services, and Department of Corrections. In addition to her classroom experience as a Licensed Special Education Teacher, Monique’s extensive background and knowledge has focused heavily on serving youth and families in mental health, social services, foster and residential care, therapeutic day treatment, and early childhood education. Monique is also certified in Cognitive Behavioral Coaching, Parent Education, Positive Discipline, and Crisis Prevention.
