VCPD EASTERN REGIONAL SUMMIT was held on MARCH 13, 2017 at Hampton Healthy Families- 100 Old Hampton Lane, Hampton VA 23669. The Summit featured Keynote speaker Marsha Goodman, M.Ed., Early Childhood Consultant. Marsha provided a detailed overview of the CSEFEL Pyramid Model and also shared where to locate the most current information on Early Childhood Mental Health Education.
In addition, Kerry Lambert and Kristin Ingram, from ODU-TTAC shared valuable material on the essential characteristics of Professional Learning Communities. The consortium members were each given a resource guide, compliments of ODU/TTAC entitled:
Teacher Teams That Get Results: 61 Strategies for Sustaining and Renewing Professional Learning Communities by Gayle and Lin Kuzmich. This handbook focused on the where, what, why, how, and when to use each of the 61 detailed strategies. Some of the information included:
(1) Creating and sustaining a growth-oriented climate that encourages feedback and builds trust
(2) Sharing knowledge and skills to expand and optimize results
(3) Building resilience, develop creative solutions and manage change
(4) Determining priorities and creating excellence when goal setting, by tying data back to practice.
In addition, we had the opportunity to hear VCPD updates from Jaye Harvey. Thank you to all who participated in making the event a success!
